Ulkoisesti iloinen ja huoleton Laori miettii sisimmässään vakavamielisenä maailmankatsomustaan. Miksi zon-kuthoniitit eivät ota doktriinejaan vakavissaan? Miksi epäkuolleiden on sallittu täyttää keskeisiä uskonnollisia positioita? Miten sen voi korjata - ei mitenkään? Voiko Zon-Kuthoniin sittenkään luottaa? Vai löytyykö sittenkin puhdasoppisuuden tie, joka toisi selvyyttä tähän kaikkeen.

Laori ei voi enää seurata ulkoisia auktoriteetteja. Kragma oli läheinen opettaja, mutta hänkin sivuuttaa niin monta ongelmaa puuttumatta niihin tosissaan. Vastaus löytyy vain Laorista itsestään.
