Devon, tuo omahyväinen mulkku, ei ole varmaan päivääkään tehnyt rehellistä työtä. Tiennäyttäjäakatemiassakin hänen menestyksensä oli kummastelun aiheena, sillä pääasiassa Devon vain räki lattialle, esitteli taitojaan ja "omatekoista keksintöään", ruutipistoolia. Totuushan oli, että jokaisessa kokeessa Devon joko lunttasi, huijasi, tai sai muut näyttämään huonommilta. Jotenkin tämä jäi ohjaajilta huomiotta tai sitten tarkoituksella.

Devon ei oikeastaan välitä paskaakaan koko tiennäyttäjäjärjestöstä, ajattelee vain omaa etuaan ja mainettaan. Sen verran saapas kuitenkin, ettei tajua järjestön käyttävän Devonia hyväkseen; taidokas pyssymies on houkuteltu henkivartijaksi arvokkaammille jäsenille. Puolituiskilpi ei ole yhtä hyvä kuin ihmiskilpi, mutta kyllä sekin käy. Ansat laukeavat kivasti.

Persoonana Devon vaikuttaa aluksi erittäin tuttavalliselta ja miellyttävältä. Vasta kun hänestä tulee ystäväsi, alkavat asiat mennä päin mäntyä.

Huhutaan, että Devon ryösti erään vanhan ja viisaan kirotun tietäjän elinvoimat...
